East Lothian Council seeks to appoint a positive, resilient and inclusive individual for the position of Additional Support Needs at Rosehill High School, on the Wallyford Learning Campus. Our S1-S4 school roll currently sits at around 480 and includes 28 young people in our severe and complex needs provision, The Brae. Extensive new housing in the area means that our population will continue to expand rapidly.
This secondary learning facility is designed to support creative approaches to learning, with a range of adaptive teaching spaces. Alongside up-to-date and digitally enabled classrooms, there is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) wing, a Learning Resource Centre, extensive facilities to support the arts, and a state-of-the-art sport and leisure complex. Learning and teaching on the campus goes beyond the traditional classroom and encompasses outdoor learning and sustainability.
Each ASN auxiliary is allocated to a strong House Team and will work closely with the Curriculum Leader for Support for Learning, Pupil Support Workers, classroom teachers, and support staff.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can:
* Communicate clearly and kindly with young people to help reduce any barriers to presence, participation and achievement in school
* Work as part of the team around children with ASN, building and maintaining strong relationships in the wider school community
* Exhibit the interpersonal skills required to play a full part in safeguarding and nurturing young people, offering the right balance of challenge and support
* Use their initiative and work responsively to meet the needs of the young people in their care
* Commit to viewing themselves as a lifelong learner, seeking out and taking up opportunities to continually improve their practice
The successful candidate will be at the forefront of a growing school community and have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people's lives. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a brand new place of learning, in which everyone can thrive.
We would be particularly interested to hear from candidates with experience in, or will gain Health/First Aid Support.
Interviews for this role will take place on the 20th of November 2024.
