PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY The successful applicants will work as part of a team and be responsible for the provision of a high quality administrative service to the ward. The prime responsibility of the post holder will be to assist the nurse in charge of the ward with a variety of administrative and clerical duties to ensure the smooth running of the unit. A good standard of general education, previous clerical experience and excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Previous hospital or experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams would be an obvious advantage. Administrative and Clerical Duties - Record admission, transfer and discharge activity data onto the Trust systems. - Handle telephone calls from relatives, hospital staff, public etc, under guidance where necessary from the Sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where appropriate on behalf of ward staff. - Ensure that patients medical records (including x-rays) are available on the ward, obtaining these where necessary from other departments. - Transfer pathology and other reports to patients records, and general collation of records promptly and efficiently, especially on patients discharge. - Deliver patients mail. - Order stationary and complete requisition forms under instruction from Sister/Charge Nurse. - Complete electronic admission/bed system as required - Maintaining records on behalf of Sister/ Charge Nurse. Assisting to maintain high standards of care - Assist in the welcome and reception of patients and visitors into the clinical area - Maintain a safe working environment, reporting incidents, accidents, complaints - Understand the need to maintain and respect patient confidentiality - Participate in in-service training - Participate in mandatory training annually - Participate in annual performance appraisal - Undertake duties on different wards/depts as and when required by service demands Develop good working relationship - Participate in appropriate and relevant communications networks - Ensure the maintenance of good relationships, communications and teamwork with all disciplines within the ward / department Health and Safety/Risk Management The jobholder must comply at all times with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trusts Risk Incident Reporting System. The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role. Patient and Public Involvement All staff will be expected to comply with S.242 of the NHS Act 2006. Respect for Patient Confidentiality The jobholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role. This includes a requirement to maintain a safe, clean and tidy work environment and to complete mandatory Infection Prevention and Control Training as provided by the Foundation Trust. All clinical staff must ensure rigorous and consistent compliance with standard infection control precautions including Hand hygiene, dress code and use of personal protective equipment and other clinical care policies and protocols applicable to infection prevention and control. Employees are required to challenge poor performance or poor practice in relation to infection prevention and report any breaches using relevant Trust procedures such as the Incident reporting system. Safeguarding Children and Adults All employees have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults including but not limited to patients, members of the public and colleagues. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring they undertake the appropriate level of training in accordance with our safeguarding policy training strategy and that they are aware of and work within the safeguarding policies of the Trust which are available on the Trust intranet pages. 7.
