Our client is seeking an experienced Resource Specialist to support their London office.
This role is crucial for the development of legal talent, engaging with associates to understand their interests and objectives, and providing them with the necessary experiences and relationships for career growth.
The position focuses on effective management and staffing of associates, balancing a well-rounded associate experience with business needs.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, client-focused, ambitious, and passionate about excelling in a global law firm. Responsibilities include networking across EMEA offices and serving as a contact point for Partners and Associates.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Management
1. Acting as a neutral third-party for trainees and associates, ensuring equitable work allocation and supporting targeted professional development.
2. Managing staffing requests for trainees and junior associates, coordinating closely with Staffing Partners, and serving as a liaison between Associates and Partners.
3. Monitoring and reporting on equitable work allocation KPIs to practice leadership and conducting check-ins with Associates to discuss career interests and gather feedback.
4. Ensuring efficient and timely staffing by monitoring lawyer utilisation and assessing individual capacity.
5. Maintaining clear, effective communication with stakeholders on initiatives, developments, business issues, and other critical topics.
6. Collaborating with the HR team and Partners on staffing-related issues, providing regular data reports and insights on staffing trends, utilisation, and D&I metrics.
7. Escalating sensitive or high-risk staffing situations and monitoring utilisation levels for women and diverse associates, ensuring timely feedback and performance information sharing with HR Managers.
Practice Management
1. Working closely with Partners, the People team, HR Managers, L&D, and Professional Support Lawyers to ensure timely completion of the annual evaluation process and appropriate training opportunities for associates.
2. Liaising with the Regional Section Head and Staffing Partners to monitor associate performance, development, career aspirations, and providing individual feedback.
3. Participating in local moderation processes where appropriate and helping to drive Firm engagement initiatives.
4. Ensuring associates receive appropriate training opportunities by collaborating with Learning & Development and Professional Support Lawyers.
Qualifications and Skills
1. Significant prior experience in associate development, work allocation, and/or resource management within a large professional services environment, preferably within a law firm.
2. Substantial experience in resource management within law firms highly preferred.
3. Strong commercial and business awareness, with excellent judgement and client service focus.
4. Outstanding skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and persuasive ability to drive change through influence.
5. Strong project management skills and a proactive, resourceful attitude; takes initiative.
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with persistence and resilience.
7. Strong technology skills, with experience in resource management software and proficiency in Excel.
8. Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours to address staffing requests.
Location and Reporting
1. This role is based in our London office, and reports into the Senior Manager of Allocation & Development EMEA.
2. 3 days a week in the office requirement.
