As our Support Worker, you’ll be at the heart of supporting our customers who have multiple and complex needs such as mental health, substance misuse issues and/or a mild learning disability needs to develop their skills to live more independently in the community. You’ll make a big difference each day as you help our customers achieve their hopes and aspirations. Amazing we know!
Typical day as our Support Worker
• Starting the day with a cuppa and handover from colleagues, catching up on any changes since you were last on shift and the tasks/ support planned for the day ahead.
• You will be supporting customers with their identified support needs such as helping with benefits, paying their rent/ bills, accompanying to support appointments, or you could be supporting customers to learn and regain skills with daily living activities such as making meals, cleaning, shopping, budgeting, maintaining their tenancy moving in and moving on to independent accommodation.
• You might be arranging an in-house cooking group and supporting customers at times of distress and being resilient to support them.
• Contributing to risk assessments, support planning, goal setting and regular reviews.
• Contributing to the maintenance of the property, reporting repairs and Health and safety requirements, preparing void rooms to be ready for let to a clean high standard for new customers.
• Monitoring rent accounts and applying for benefits.

You bring
• Passion to support our customers to live their best life, working together as a team with an eye for detail
• Experience of supporting others, you may have worked in Supporting/ housing environment before or have experience of supporting others such as family members who have experience Mental health issues
• The ability to work on your own initiative, remain calm under pressure and have a resilient approach
• Recognise every customer is different and you’re able to adopt a flexible, personal approach, listening to customers to understand their needs
• Have a Positive attitude with a solution focused approach
• Able to use technology to update support plans, complete online learning and to collaborate with colleagues.

Our team
You’ll join Manager Janet and our Bury St Edmunds team, Anna, Amanda and Paul, we’re super passionate about what we do! We’re really proud of how well as a small team we work together and support each other especially at times when life gets a bit tricky for our customers. We are a dog friendly service, so a likeness of pets is essential, and we have a great coffee machine in the office.
Job details
• Where we’re flexible with you, we do need to meet the needs of our customers. That may mean adapting your start or finishing times on occasion.
• Work pattern is 25 hours per week, rolling rota, where you take your turn working bank holidays and festive periods, shifts can be agreed around schooling and childcare if needed.
• Although there are times that you’ll lone work, we often have other colleagues on shift in the service or other services and an out of hours on call in the event of an emergency should you need some assistance.
• You’ll need an Enhanced DBS check done and we pay for that.
