About the Role:
Cruachan Power Station, affectionately known as the ‘Hollow Mountain’, residesdeep inside Ben Cruachan Mountain in Argyll and Bute. The site is one of onlyfour pumped storage hydro stations in the UK and has a capacity of 440 MW –enough to power more than 90,000 homes.
Reporting into the Maintenance Manager, you’ll play a key role in ensuring thatCruachan Power Station remains efficient and reliable to maximise opportunitiesfor commercial running.
Key responsibilities include:
- Routinemaintenance, operations, defect investigation and repair, modifications,inspection, testing and commissioning of all electrical/ instrument equipment
- Routineinspection and maintenance, fault finding, modifications, testing andcommissioning of all electrical apparatus including switchgear, motors, controlpanels and batteries.
- Routineinspection and maintenance, calibration, fault finding, modification, testingand commissioning of all control and instrument equipment, PLC and SCADAsystems
- Assisting theEngineering teams in the processes for plant improvement and project delivery
- Assisting withthe design and upgrade of existing instrument systems during planned outages
- Assist andsupervise contractors with plant maintenance, modifications, testing andcommissioning
- Undertakingand participating in safety, environmental and quality inspections, and audits
Who we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll hold an ONC/ HNC or equivalent in an Electrical or Control& Instrumentation engineering discipline and have demonstrable experiencein operation and maintenance of rotating plant, machinery and electricalswitchgear.
Additionally,you’ll need demonstrable experience with electrical, instrument &mechanical drawings, plant O&M manuals. You’ll also need good workingknowledge and understanding of Control, Instrumentation and PLC systems.
Experience inthe power industry is ideal but not essential.
You’ll need highly developed communications and negotiation skills and be ableto form effective working relationships and persuade others to help them solveproblems. You’ll also need to be a self-starter who is comfortable workingindependently where required.
Safety is our top priority and at the heart of everything we do. As an EC&ITechnician, you’ll be an ambassador for best practice. Ideally, you’ll hold orbe willing to work towards an IOSH certification.
Due to the nature of the work environment, you’ll need to be willing to work inall weather conditions, as well as be comfortable working at heights, inconfined spaces, climbing and descending vertical access ladders, lone working,manual handling and working near water courses.
