The Scottish Bar is one of Scotland’s most ancient and prestigious institutions with a membership of about 460 practising Advocates. Most advocates are supported in their professional practices by Practice Managers/Advocates’ Clerks employed by Faculty Services Limited. Practice Managers are the primary point of contact for solicitors and others who wish to instruct Advocates to provide legal advice or to appear in court.
Westwater Advocates is a set of Advocates at the Scottish bar, offering expertise and experience across most major areas of legal practice specialising in both family and employment law. The following vacancy has arisen:

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday: - 9.00am - 5.00pm
Operating under a hybrid working policy
Salary: Grade 2b £35,533 - £43,192 per annum
All new appointments will be made at the start of the salary scale

The post of Deputy Advocates’ Clerk reports to the Practice Manager and as part of a small team provides day-to-day support to the Practice Manager in managing the operations of a devolved Scottish Stable of Advocates within Faculty Services Limited. Key responsibilities include:
1. Diary management of Advocates by managing enquiries, availability, instructions, assessing work and caseloads;
2. Advocacy support to provide practice management advice and support;
3. Fee and financial advice by drafting terms of engagement, negotiating fees, preparing costs analysis and estimates;
4. Practice promotion and marketing to administer events, seminars, legal directory submissions, to promote counsel along with website maintenance and social media channels.
A minimum of three years’ experience in an administrative position is preferable; experience in a legal environment would be desirable. Excellent communication and strong organisational skills are essential along with interpersonal skills, negotiation skills and the ability to work under pressure while prioritising tasks.
In addition to the above, essential criteria include SCE Higher Grade English (or equivalent), IT literacy, competent keyboard skills including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
