Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant in Paediatric and Limb Reconstruction
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
We are seeking a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Limb Reconstruction, to join our team of 25 Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultants as a locum for a minimum of twelve months of post-fellowship experience in Paediatric Orthopaedics. Extensive proficiency in applying circular frames is a prerequisite.
The applicant needs to demonstrate a proven track record of managing complex injuries, showcasing both experience and skills. A commitment to contributing to the advancement of the orthoplastic and limb reconstruction service within the trust is expected.
Registration with the GMC, completion of clinical training, and possessing experience equivalent to the criteria for obtaining a UK CCT in Orthopaedics are mandatory. The successful candidate must also be willing to actively engage in Teaching and Clinical Governance Provision.
Main duties of the job
This post will complement the existing Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Limb Reconstruction service.
The post holder will participate in the existing general Trauma and Orthopaedic on-call rota. As a Major Trauma Centre, trauma surgery at Royal Preston Hospital includes general and major trauma cases. Non-spinal orthopaedic surgeons are not on call for spinal surgery.
Due to the fortnightly departmental structure of fracture clinics, mutually cooperative arrangements are in place between Consultant colleagues to facilitate review of patients at one week time intervals if required.
This post will have equitable working conditions to their established Consultant colleagues and will involve clinical sessions in Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital. The base hospital will be Royal Preston Hospital.
Working for our organisation
We aim to provide excellent care with compassion and believe that creating a positive working environment, where staff feel valued, supported, and empowered, will enable us to achieve this aim for every patient, every time.
The Major Trauma Centre at Royal Preston Hospital delivers the Major Trauma Service for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
In Orthopaedics, delivery of acute trauma care is via a Trauma Week system. The Trauma Week model involves 2 Consultants working in pairs and undertaking one of two fixed cycles, designated Week 1 and Week 2.
The Trust benefits from its close proximity to a number of quality academic institutions, as well as being a provider of a variety of specialist services across the region.
As a teaching hospital, we encourage all our staff to participate in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are committed to developing our teaching and academic activities and can facilitate meeting any training needs for these roles.
