East Midlands Special Operations Unit (Counter Terrorism Policing) are looking to recruit a Regional Researcher on a full time permanent basis. The East Midlands Special Operations Unit - Counter Terrorism, is one of the largest collaborative policing units in the country, delivering specialist capabilities on behalf of the five East Midlands police forces and comprises officers and police staff, providing a wide range of specialist crime services as part of EMSOU. We tackle threats posed by terrorism and extremism as an integral element of the National CTP Network. As a Regional Researcher, you will research information to support analytical, intelligence and operations work ensuring that spreadsheets and databases are maintained in accordance with appropriate legislation to meet priorities/objectives. You will also interpret and be able to explain research to a non-technical audience. Key Accountabilities The post holder will access information that is sensitive on a regional and national basis. They will be expected to observe high levels of discretion and confidentiality. Staff are required to work in line with relevant police legislation/policies including Management of Police Information, Freedom of Information Act, Data Protection Act and the Official Secrets Act. Research information to support analytical, intelligence and operations work when required ensuring spreadsheets and databases are maintained in accordance with appropriate legislation to meet priorities/objectives. Take responsibility for prioritising and assessing intelligence development in support of all EMSOU-SB departments. The must haves You will need to be educated to GCSE (Grade C or above) in English Language and Maths or have equivalent work based experience to include research of statistics and have experience of data validation and ability to check facts not instantly available through research. Due to the nature of this role you must hold a full driving licence and willing to travel on occasions both regionally and nationally. A comprehensive knowledge and working experience of the Microsoft applications and other databases that hold complex information. Security Requirements This post requires regular access to sensitive material and applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo enhanced security clearance before taking up the post. The material may be of sensitivity to the UK and may therefore be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances, dual nationals (of which one element is British) may be granted access. However, if potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed, the post holder will not be permitted access the systems or material required for the role and will not therefore be able to perform their duties. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or achieve the required levels of security clearance requirements cannot be offered the post.
