Vacancy: Global Projects Control Manager Location: Flexible Job Family: General Project Management Global Projects Control Manager provides functional leadership across JM for capital project schedule development and progress measurement and control. This functional leadership includes establishing and owning JM project scheduling and progress control standards, developing scheduling and progress control best practices, tools and databases and promoting and supporting their use in all projects, and developing and coaching JM scheduling and progress control professionals working across the company. Global Projects Control Manager, supported by a scheduler and a cost controller dedicated to site-based projects, fulfils the scheduling/planning/cost control function directly for those site-based project teams to which the site/business is unable to assign a competent resource. Your responsibilities: Develop and maintain JM project scheduling and progress control standards, best practices, tools and templates, to standardise and support the work of Project Schedulers/Progress Controllers. Work with Project Schedulers/Progress Controllers to ensure they understand and implement these project scheduling and progress control standards and practices consistently on all projects. In consultation with the Central Project Contracting and Procurement Manager, develop and maintain standard contractor scheduling and progress control requirements to be included in JM project tender requests and execution contracts. Develop and maintain a database of as-built schedules and schedule duration metrics for completed JM projects. Develop and maintain a database of cost metrics for completed JM projects. Oversee the provision of direct project scheduling and progress control support to site-based projects by the Scheduler (site-based projects), reporting to the Central Project Scheduling and Progress Control Manager. Oversee the provision of direct project cost control support to site-based projects by the Cost Controller (site-based projects). Provide schedule development subject matter expertise and support to Project Sponsors to develop early schedule duration estimates in the Idea stage, in partnership with the Major Projects Initiation and Development Director, Business Engineering Directors and Business Capex Managers (according to the size/complexity of the project). Provide independent schedule advice to JM decisions makers as required, to ensure business decision makers understand the schedule risk and probable ranges associated with schedule duration estimates presented at gates. Supporting project assurance through independent quality review of project schedules, basis of schedules, project progress control plans and other related deliverables presented at gates. Conduct independent benchmarking of major project schedule estimates, using metrics drawn from a database of historic JM as-built schedules and public sources. Requirements for the role: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field of equivalent experience (advanced degree preferred), together with certification in Project Management. Proven knowledge and experience in large capital projects and portfolios in excess of £1Bn within highly regulated and high hazard industries. Extensive experience of dealing with demanding business scenarios cross-culturally and across multiple geographies. Demonstratable experience in driving organizational transformation impacting direct areas of accountability and having wide business impact, combined with having previously worked in a similar role. Deep commercial acumen combined with extensive experience of partnering with and managing third parties strategically, contractually and in directing and managing performance. Ability to lead complex change and simultaneously manage and influence multiple stakeholders, competing demands and complex business, technical or regulatory scenarios. Delivery focused & a self-starter, having a track record of achieving challenging goals within business-critical timescales while working under pressure. Courage to question or challenge issues and collaborate with stakeholders to drive towards resolution.
