Overview:
As Pre-Construction Manager, you will drive the winning bid strategy by devising the most innovative, efficient, highly persuasive and economically advantageous solution, ensuring our customers’ expectations are met and, wherever possible, exceeded. As a member of the Senior Management Team you will contribute to and influence the Regional level strategy and performance.
The successful candidate will demonstrate true leadership, managing the delivery of successful bids and projects through all stages of pre-construction: early engagement, tender and preferred bidder/second stage up to full contract award, and successfully transfer projects to the operational team.
With a proven track record of successful projects, you will be responsible for leading projects through pre-construction ranging in value from £15m to £100m+ across a range of sectors, including Healthcare, Public Sector, Higher Education, Leisure, Commercial and Residential.
You will be able to work in an agile way depending on the demands of the role, working from our office in Bromsgrove, as well as attending Client meetings, site visits and project meetings across the Midlands region.
Key Responsibilities:
* Managing and co-ordinating pre-construction activities from all disciplines including Estimating, Commercial, Planning, Production, Design & Business Development.
* Working alongside the Regional Business Development Manager and Regional Estimator in identifying opportunities and early engagement with potential clients and supply chain.
* Formulate and agree strategy and resources required with bid teams and senior management, in line with agreed bid programmes.
* Managing and maintaining long term relationships with key clients.
* Effectively communicate and explain the technical and commercial bid approach during client engagement.
* Understand and challenge technical documents relating to design, build, legal and financial aspects to maximise opportunities.
* Overseeing and contributing to production of winning bid documents and submissions.
* Working closely with the bid team to administer PCSA/PSSC contract requirements during preferred bidder status.
* Effectively identifying and managing risk and opportunity through each stage of pre-construction, including potential change.
* Leading bid team through process of compliance with internal tender gateway approvals.
* Co-ordinate negotiations and commercial discussions through all stages of the process.
* Directly managing a team of bid managers and writers with the ability to develop their career progression.
Essential skills:
* Proven pre-construction management expertise, within the construction and engineering industry.
* Exceptional leadership skills.
* Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to influence an audience, and work with all levels of the organisation.
* Strong analytical and commercial management experience.
* A technical understanding of complex construction schemes.
* Excellent time management skills.
* Proven experience in preparing and developing bid winning strategies.
Desirable skills:
* A construction related degree.
* CIOB membership or equivalent.
* Experience of working across a variety of construction sectors.
* Experience of working with a variety of contract and procurement routes.
