Are you a clinical pharmacist who would like a hospital role in a rural community hospital ?
We have a unique opportunity for a pharmacist to join our enthusiastic, innovative and supportive pharmacy team in NHS Dumfries and Galloway. You will be based at Galloway Community Hospital, a small 42 bedded rural community hospital in Stranraer. This hospital supports acute medicine, longer medical stay rehab/care of the elderly, dialysis beds, emergency department, day surgery, palliative care and outpatients. The successful candidate will provide up to 37 hours/week clinical pharmacist service to the two medical wards to support the safe and effective use of medicines at Galloway Community Hospital and to support the pharmacy discharge needs of the patients.
This post will be ideal for someone looking to further their clinical/hospital experience and will enable development of skills within a broad range of services. This is a unique opportunity for someone who is ready to both manage and provide the pharmacy service to this small community hospital. You will be supported on site by a pharmacy technician and pharmacy support worker and remotely by team pharmacy at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. You will be managed by the lead pharmacist Acute and Diagnostics and supported by the management team at Galloway Community Hospital.
You will be based in Stranraer in Dumfries and Galloway, a rural town in beautiful south west Scotland with easy links to Northern Ireland and the Scottish central belt.
Galloway Community Hospital supports electronic prescribing and team pharmacy work closely with both the community pharmacy and primary care pharmacy teams.
This post does not carry on-call or weekend working.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
