Description
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance professional to take ownership of financial operations while working in a dynamic, growing SME. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a key role in ensuring financial compliance, supporting strategic growth, and mentoring a developing finance team. Key responsibilities include:
Accounting & Bookkeeping Oversight
1. Oversee monthly bank reconciliations (carried out by a trainee accountant).
2. Provide payroll data and manage debtor collection/credit control.
Financial Compliance & Reporting
1. Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
2. Monitor and forecast cash flow.
3. Liaise with external accountants to ensure timely account submissions.
4. Oversee annual reporting to Companies House and support budgeting processes.
Strategic Financial Leadership
1. Work with the Finance Director on upscaling and process improvements.
2. Plan and secure financing arrangements when required.
3. Advise on dividend planning and regulatory compliance.
4. Conduct margin analysis and provide strategic insights.
5. Contribute to sustainability planning and performance improvements.
Team Development & Management
1. Mentor and support the bookkeeper to develop their skills.
Profile
We are seeking a financial professional with a balance of technical expertise and strategic insight to drive the company's financial success. The ideal candidate will have:
* Professional accounting qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
* Experience in financial control, compliance, and long-term financial planning.
* A proactive and hands-on approach, with the ability to manage both detailed financial processes and high-level strategy.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly in working with senior leadership and mentoring junior team members.
* A proven track record of improving financial processes and supporting business growth.
* Familiarity with SMEs and the challenges of scaling a business (preferred).
