Main Responsibilities
As a key member of the shop management team, you will collaborate closely with the Shop Manager to deliver the store objectives, maximise shop sales, and promote the work of Sobell House Hospice (SHHC) in the local community. In the absence of the Manager, you will ensure smooth operations of the shop and lead a cohesive team, focusing on driving sales through effective merchandising, stock rotation, and excellent customer service.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Trading Operations
• Deputise for the Shop Manager to ensure smooth management of the shop in their absence
• Ensure adequate stock is available for sale by actively promoting and responding to enquiries to generate regular donations
• Ensure that stock donations are processed efficiently and that shop floor stock is rotated in line with shop schedules
• Respond professionally to customer and donor enquiries and complaints in line with SHHC policies and guidelines
• Maximise potential claimable Gift Aid income by promoting the Gift Aid scheme in store, increasing the number of new and repeat donors
• Ensure effective merchandising, stock rotation and window presentations in line with Hospice best practice guidelines at all times
• Ensure that promotional marketing is implemented in line with SHHC schedules and brand guidelines
• Ensure new goods sales are maximised and recorded accurately on the EPOS system, i.e. sales, stock takes and transfers
• Support the Shop Manager to organise initiatives and events to engage with the local community and to raise awareness of the shop and charity services
• To research and identify suitable items for sale via Hospice Online platforms eg. eBay, Amazon
People Management
• Work with the Shop Manager to organise and plan the smooth day-to-day running of the shop by ensuring adequate staff and volunteer coverage at all times. Working flexibly to meet the needs of the shop where required
• Deputise to lead a motivated team of staff and volunteers, and support their ongoing training and development
• Ensure the team maintain and present a positive image of the organisation, representing SHHC in a professional manner at all times and in keeping with SHHC’s policies, procedures and values
Health and Safety & Security
• Ensure all SHHC H&S procedures, risk assessments and safe standards of working are maintained within the shop at all times. Timely reporting of incidents and accidents as required
• Ensure all equipment and premises are in good order, and informing the Estates & Facilities Manager of necessary repairs and maintenance; actioning repairs and maintenance if authorised
• To hold keys to the shop
Administration and General
• Awareness of shop financial targets, results and strategy objectives
• To ensure that all sales are recorded correctly through the EPOS system and handling of all monies is completed in line with financial policies and procedures
• Efficiently undertake relevant operational and administrative processes
• To have knowledge of Sobell House Hospice’s Services in order to respond to staff and customer queries
• To attend all mandatory and relevant training or meetings as identified by the Hospice/ Director of Retail
Other duties
• Embody the values of Sobell House Hospice Charity, comply with all policies and procedures and carry out any other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Retail.
• To provide shop cover in other locations when required by the Charity
