What's involved with this role: Interim Principal Auditor – Financial Services Job Ref: Portsmouth 5255215 Pay Rate: £21.00 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 6 months City: Portsmouth, Hampshire Hybrid working – 2 days in the office As Principal Auditor the successful candidate will assist with delivering the Audit and Counter Fraud Service to PCC and external clients (neighbouring authorities). They will work closely with all levels of officers and members within the relevant Council, you will take an active role in gaining an in depth knowledge of the strategic direction of the relevant Council and the issues it faces, in order to be able to advice on the effective management of risk exposure and the internal control framework. In addition and as part of the audit function you will carry out original research on new auditing techniques in relation to data analysis and lead in this area. Qualifications: A professional accounting or auditing qualification and Membership. Skills & Experience: Knowledge & experience of compliance with the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS) Knowledge and experience of operating at a strategic and operational level. A minimum 2 years' experience in conducting audits on a variety of areas including contract auditing. Understanding of the methodology and principles of auditing at a strategic level. Knowledge and experience of corporate governance including: risk management, internal control environments and frameworks. Knowledge & experience of Local Government, its organisation & funding. Able to demonstrate an up to date knowledge of legislation, examples include; Accounts and Audit Regulations; Anti Money Laundering; Human Rights; DPA. Detailed knowledge of tools required to undertake the role i.e. audit tools, controls and control tools, Benchmarking and other Quality Assurance tools. Ability to objectively analyse problems, reach logical conclusions and investigate the wider impact outside your own work area. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
