What does a Planning Enforcement Officer do at Hillingdon?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high performing Planning Enforcement Team, following a recent transformation of the service which has grown the team.
As a Planning Enforcement Officer you will be responsible for investigating alleged breaches of planning control within the Borough, and taking appropriate action in order to protect amenity and provide confidence to residents.
Duties of the role include undertaking site inspections across the Borough, together with interviewing members of the public, owners and occupiers of land, plus applying your own investigative skills and liaising with colleagues across the Council.
The postholder will be involved in, and will assist with all stages of the investigation and planning enforcement process, helping to provide an end to end service from the receipt of a complaint through to the investigation and closure of cases. This will include the preparation and service of Planning Enforcement Notices, together with assisting in the prosecution process where required.
Retention Allowance:
This role benefits from an optional retention allowance of approximately 5% (in addition to the advertised salary), subject to terms and conditions.
About you
Candidates are required to have a minimum of 12 months planning enforcement experience, which should include involvement in appeal work, prosecutions and service of a range of planning enforcement related notices.
With proven negotiating and influencing skills, you will be able to build effective relationships, and manage a busy schedule of investigative work. In addition, you must have the ability to understand, interpret and apply planning legislation and case law effectively.
Strong communication skills will be key, as you will need to communicate in writing and verbally with a range of audiences, including complainants and those about whom a complaint is made.
A full driving licence, as well as the ability to work in a systematic way, paying attention to detail are also essential for the role.
