Our customer is an independent developer of zero-carbon heat networks and advisor to Local Authorities building heat networks.
The founders set up and grew the UK's largest district heating Energy Service Companies (E.on Community Energy) and have been responsible for building more than 45 district heating schemes, setting up successful energy businesses for global energy companies.
They are now established a joint venture with Europe's largest independent investor in district heating. We have secured £220m in a dedicated fund to invest into heat networks over the next 5-10 years.
With a growing team of subject matter experts who have worked across central and local government and the private sector covering policy, regulation, development, design, delivery, investment, and operation of heat networks across the UK, we are at the very forefront of zero-carbon city-centre heat networks and looking to expand our team.
Job Description
We are growing rapidly so this is an excellent opportunity to join a developing business and become involved from the outset. We are looking for a Bid Manager who will play a pivotal role in our bid initiative efforts. You will be contributing to the successful development of innovative projects that are shaping the future of sustainable energy. We are also building our bidding function to evolve our business in response to the changing market. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the comprehensive bid lifecycle and the tendering process within the renewable energy or public sector.
The role sits within the Project Origination and Development Team and will work flexibly and collaboratively across the group.
We are seeking a proactive individual to lead, inspire, and support the team. This candidate will ensure that each bid is meticulously prepared with precision and attention to detail, remains competitive, and is strategically positioned to secure wins.
Key responsibilities
1. Strategy Development: Develop and implement a bid process strategy that aligns with business objectives and values enhancing our competitive edge.
2. Bid Identification: Proactively scan and identify potential bid opportunities that align with our business goals.
3. Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on project requirements, company needs, and industry standards to ensure bids are tailored and competitive.
4. Bid Coordination and Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, directors, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and insights for bid development and submission.
5. Bid Writing: Prepare and write high-quality, persuasive bid proposals, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and competitiveness.
6. Process Management: Oversee the entire bid lifecycle from initial identification to final submission, ensuring deadlines are met and quality standards are maintained.
7. Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with bid submissions.
8. Bid Library Management: Establish and maintain a comprehensive bid library, ensuring all relevant materials are up-to-date and easily accessible.
9. Continuous Improvement: Continuously refine and improve bid processes and strategies to enhance success rates by analysing feedback from previous bids.
Stay informed about market insights and industry trends to ensure our bids are competitive and relevant.
Core requirements
1. 5+ years of relevant work experience, with exposure to bid management in the energy industry or public sector procurements process.
2. Proven ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
4. Willingness to learn new skills and develop an excellent working knowledge of the business and sector.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft packages.
6. APMP Practitioner certification is required.
Desirable
1. Experience working within the renewable energy or district/community heating sector, particularly retrofit.
2. A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications or a related field.
