As a Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, you will work as part of an integrated primary care mental health team within the prison to train in and provide high volume, low intensity interventions which will be a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions for clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. This includes providing guided self-help in both 1:1 and group formats, in line with the current Step 2 guidelines.
Typically for a trainee, the role will see you in base 4 days per week and attending University 1 day per week, although this ratio can vary throughout the academic year and dependent on the University attended. 100% Attendance at the university is mandatory and there is a high volume of academic work within the training year.
General Duties:
* Working in a role which includes university attendance and clinical provision in base.
* Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service and make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary
* Assess and support people with mental health problems in the self-management of their recovery.
* Undertake person-centred interviews identifying areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
* Provide a range of Evidence Based Low Intensity CBT Interventions utilising a self-management model (Guided Self Help) e.g. Psycho-education, Medication Management, Sleep Hygiene, Problem Solving, Cognitive Restructuring, Exposure, Behavioural Activation, Worry Management etc in Groups or 1:1 sessions.
* Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment.
* Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
* Complete patient reviews in line with agreed protocols
* Ensure the accurate entry of clinical data onto agreed systems, maintaining the highest standards of clinical record keeping.
* Communicate effectively with patients, stakeholders, colleagues, and relevant professionals, both in verbal and written form.
Essential experience, skills required for this role:
* Be able to work towards, and successfully complete the job specific PWP University Course including all academic components of this.
* Be educated to degree or diploma level in a relevant field (e.g. psychology, nursing, social work, occupational therapy).
* Experience of working within mental health.
* Able to work effectively with a range of professionals, in a diverse team.
* Be solution focused, and work with positivity and professionalism always.
* Have high levels of motivation for the role and be passionate about delivering high quality patient care.
* Be a confident communicator with excellent verbal and written skills.
* Possess working knowledge of standard IT packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, and use of database / information systems.
* Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and be self-reflective in own personal and professional development.
* Able to prioritise workload demands and positively respond to unforeseen challenges.
