Ideal candidates should have a strong interest in forestry, woodland management, and conservation, along with a desire to learn and grow in the field.About the role:This role has been created to give young people the opportunity to get involved in the industry, in a paid 1-year fixed term trainee position, learning about all aspects of lowland forestry and gaining their vocational qualifications as well.You will work across all areas of the Forest Team, learning about and helping with everything from pruning to mowing, felling to planting, firewood processing to habitat management, forestry regulation, governance and marketing to hedge laying, coppicing, work planning, and everything in between. In addition to this you will be doing short work experience placements with a number of chosen partners, where you will assist with tasks such as fencing, planting, coppicing, estate forestry, felling, charcoal production, spraying, scrub control and timber extraction and processing, amongst other things.The work will be approximately 70:30 split between practical, and office based, and you will be working in all sorts of different environments, with no two days being the sameYou will also have access to a training budget to enable you to complete any relevant training and certification in relevant technical skills such as chainsaw, first aid, spraying, machinery operation, brush cutter etc. so at the end of the year you are experienced, competent and qualified to enter the industry. There will also be access to relevant learning opportunities to support you in developing your knowledge and understanding of forestry and associated topics.There will be internal and external mentoring, support and pastoral care and regular reviews as well as the opportunity for you to design a planting scheme, write a woodland management plan, design work plans and assist with volunteers and assist in the management direction of the Forest.Deadline for application: 22nd November 2024 Interviews to be held: 2nd December 2024
