Quantity Surveyor
DCT Recruitment are currently looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our client on a permanent basis due to continued growth. The QS will be working on projects across sectors such as Education, Healthcare, Leisure, Bluelight, Commercial and High-End Fit Outs across the UK, focusing on projects from £50k up to £3M plus. The QS will be working as a key member of the commercial team, with assistance from the Senior QS and Commercial Director based in Ashton-in-Makerfield.
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have a HNC / Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar. Ideally the candidate will have relevant industry experience in similar work streams.
Quantity Surveyor accountabilities:
Ensure initial cost plans are sufficient to carry out the works to be undertaken.
Develop procurement plans and procure the works in accordance with the cost plan and design information available.
Ensure that there are no scope gaps during procurement that everything required for the project is bought and from the correct / appropriate source via the procurement manager.
Perform tender analysis to ensure value for money is achieved and that the works have been procured at the best market rates.
Prepare contract documentation and negotiate contract terms to limit risk to the company.
Ensure that a change control procedure is in place to monitor design changes and control costs and follow procedure.
Issue and agree instructions/ variations to trade contractors on a weekly basis.
Perform interim valuations to ensure subcontractor payments are made in a timely manner.
Key Tasks and Activities
Understand and apply commercial & financial procedures and reporting systems.
Maintains detailed prelim forecasts and actual costs and intervenes were negative trends identified
Report accurately to the monthly forecast final account
Demonstrates a clear understanding of the relationship between cost, value, and profits.
Supports the Contract Manager to manage project risk and opportunities.
Carries out risk modelling.
Takes all appropriate steps to maximise out turn profit.
Demonstrates an understanding of Notices and Payment Criteria.
Able to describe the implications of differing forms of contract and their appropriate usage.
Manages the change process in accordance with the contract.
Prepares bid documentation to ensure a fully defined tender.
Ensure that a pre-tender estimate is prepared and an accurate analysis of tenders against cost plans appropriately reported.
Intervenes and develops strategies to bring cost or design into alignment when differences are identified.
Dimensions (skills, experience, and capabilities):
Quantity Surveying Degree
Experience of working for a Principal Contractor.
Experience in refurbishment and/ or Fit out projects
Demonstrate excellent planning and organisational skills.
Good communication skills both verbal and written.
Experience with tendering subcontract works.
Able to prepare subcontract documentation ready for engrossment by external parties.
Experience of advanced Microsoft word, excel spreadsheet.
Ability to read drawings and construction design information.
Valuing interim applications.
Preparing and agreeing site variations.
Preparation of internal monthly cost reports / cost to complete forecasts.
Knowledge of measurement and valuation techniques.
Knowledge of contractual laws and construction legislation.
This is a for a permanent position within the company.
Salary and car allowance is negotiable.

Pay: £45,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
