Hicks Group Practice is offering an exciting opportunity for a Prescription Clerk to join our friendly and supportive team. They will work over both sites, Charles Hicks Centre, Huntingdon and Roman Gate Surgery, Godmanchester serving a patient population of 17,100 and growing due to new developments in the local area.
We are looking to replace a retiring colleague and have a Prescription Clerk post available. We are looking for a part time post of 34 hours. You will be working set hours Mon, Weds & Fri 1pm to 6pm, and Tues/Thurs 8am to 6pm, however flexibility will be required. The starting rate is £11.75 rising to £12.01 following full assimilation of the role, with a 6 month probationary period.
Experience of working in general practice/NHS and on SystmOne is preferred. The post holder will have responsibility for providing prescription support to the doctors and other members of the clinical team. A knowledge of medical terminology/medications would be preferred; however, training will be provided.

Main duties of the job
The Prescription Clerk provides support to our GPs and ANPs in the receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions for our 17,100 patients. You will be the main point of contact for Patient enquiries about their prescriptions, so resilience is important. You will be liaising on sensitive medical information, so a caring customer service communication style is essential.

Job responsibilities
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Duties will include coordinating and preparing repeat prescriptions for our Patients, data entry onto Patient records and Patient and Pharmacy liaison. The tasks and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any or all of the items in the following lists, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:
1. Work with our GPs to provide a responsive repeat prescription service delegated to the Prescription team as appropriate.
2. Delivering the technical aspects of prescription preparation to ensure the safe prescribing of medicines.
3. Delivering an efficient prescription service and ensuring service targets are met and errors are minimised.
4. Comply with legal and professional requirements, accepted guidance on professional practice, and with safe systems of work for re-authorising repeat prescriptions.
5. Run analysis reports and gather information from a variety of sources for continuous improvement, safe management of repeat prescriptions, and to coordinate medication reviews or changes.
6. Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert our clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternatives.
7. Expedite urgent prescriptions to help ensure a safe and responsive service for our Patients.
8. Respond to enquiries from Patients, carers, secretaries, NHS administrators, Consultants or the Medicines Management Team in a courteous, timely and efficient manner, by telephone, letter and email, occasionally face-to-face and maintain precise records of the communications.
9. Provide an efficient administration service as part of a Team to ensure the smooth running of the prescription support to our clinicians.
10. Post, email or text message via Accurx, written correspondence as appropriate to deliver the requested correspondence in a timely manner, and ensure this is recorded in the Patient record.
11. Ensure you are keeping Patient information updated and that Patient information is secure/kept confidential at all times.
12. Maintain accurate Patient records promptly and quickly - entering data in accordance with reporting requirements.
13. Keep up to date with the Practices formulary and the National restricted drugs list.
14. Bring any queries to the attention of the relevant doctor, to include under and over usage.
15. Issue nursing supplies e.g. dressings, catheters if advised by a suitably trained nurse/supplier.
16. On the doctor's instructions, inactivate drugs that have never been issued or have not been issued for a specified period of time.
17. Liaise with external Pharmacy services and patients as necessary to resolve queries.
18. Build good working relationships with local Pharmacies to help enable our prescription service.
19. Check emails regularly and deal with them appropriately.
20. Create tasks and assist Clinicians in managing document workflow relating to prescriptions.
21. Establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computerized information is easily accessible and secure.
22. Ensure regular audits of prescription supplies (FP10s) and record findings, reporting and anomalies to the Prescribing lead.
23. Escalate any problems to your line manager or practice manager that you need support with.
24. Provide cover for members of the Prescription team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
25. Undertake training as requested to support safe and effective services for the Practice.
26. Carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the GPs/practice manager/line manager.
