Job Description
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design and development of large-scale static plant projects. Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for transforming project requirements into practical and efficient design solutions. Your experience and technical acumen will be essential in guiding projects through all phases, ensuring adherence to quality standards, meeting timelines, and managing project budgets effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities
Project Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and translate them into innovative, manufacturable product designs.
CAD Modelling: Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings.
Design Optimization: Continuously evaluate and optimize designs for cost-effectiveness, manufacturability and efficiency while maintaining product integrity.
Material Selection: Work in collaboration with Senior Design Engineers to identify and select appropriate materials for the manufacturing process, considering costs and performance factors.
Collaboration: Engage in effective communication with team members, suppliers and other stakeholders to ensure seamless transition from design to production.
Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure that products meet design specifications and industry standards.
Documentation: Help to create comprehensive design documentation, including BOM’s, design reports and other relevant documentation.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about industry regulations and standards, ensuring that designs comply with relevant safety and quality requirements.

Desired Criteria
* Experience in designing conveyors, hoppers, trommels, and other materials handling equipment
* Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and other engineering analysis tools
* Familiarity with Solidworks and PDM for 3D design and document management
* Understanding of automation and control systems in an industrial environment
Required Criteria
* Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within heavy industrial equipment, recycling, or materials handling sectors
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Solidworks
* Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and machining processes
* Experience in structural design and knowledge of materials selection
* Ability to work effectively within a small team and independently when required
