Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Backend Engineer passionate about creating the platform that powers HIVEDs emission-free parcel delivery network.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be an integral part of the team, responsible for the full software development lifecycle - from discovery and design to deployment and monitoring. You will have tangible impact on growing HIVEDs software backend in a rapid but sustainable fashion. HIVED will depend on you to ensure that our backend is reliable and maintainable for both internal and external users. You will solve problems in a creative but pragmatic fashion, and always with a positive attitude.
Youll be embedded in a cross-functional team, collaborating directly with other software engineers, product managers and UX designers. The problems your team is solving cover complex routing and optimisation challenges, building intelligent address and parcel locating solutions, external integrations, powering our customer facing apps with (live) tracking data and more. We reimagine parcel delivery from scratch - built on a modern tech stack with sustainability, flexibility and scale at the core.
Responsibilities
1. Design, implement, and maintain a scalable backend architecture to power HIVEDs internal operations.
2. Plan and lead projects along with other software engineers, product managers and end users.
3. Maintain and optimise existing infrastructure, including integrations with third-party services.
4. Shape the engineering culture at HIVED by scaling processes, tools, and standards, while sharing knowledge with junior team members.
5. Participate in the on-call rota, ensuring system reliability.
Requirements
1. Proven experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role, with 5+ years of experience.
2. Skilled at writing clean, performant and testable code in typed languages.
3. Experience in architecting, designing, and building distributed systems.
4. Familiarity with a range of technologies, databases and cloud stacks (AWS) and previous experience with Infrastructure as Code.
5. Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
