About the Role: Bath and North East Somerset Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Plant Operator/Team Leader LGV to join our Waste and Recycling services team. This frontline operational role is classified as safety critical and involves working in regulated waste management facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising allocated staff and carrying out operations within waste and recycling services, primarily operating forklift trucks, wheeled loading shovels, sorting equipment, and baling equipment. Key Responsibilities: Supervise and mentor agency staff. Operate plant and machinery, including forklift trucks, wheeled loading shovels, and balers. Load and unload vehicles and bays of waste and recycling materials. Perform safety checks of plant and equipment. Ensure a high standard of cleanliness in the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). Complete all necessary paperwork and digital records. Drive HGV vehicles when required for operational issues. Qualifications and Experience: HGV license for minimum Class 2. essential Basic English and Maths. Forklift Truck License. essential Manual Handling and reversing assistant training (on induction). Telehandler License. training provided Experience of forklift and other plant or machinery. Health & Safety awareness including Manual handling and Banks man. Personal Qualities: Strong team player with a collaborative work style. Proactive, creative thinker with strong influencing and negotiating skills. Ability to cope with conflicting demands and deadlines. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Working Environment: Continuous physical effort and endurance required. Exposure to environmental pressures such as heat, noise, and smell.
