The Role of the Process Control Technician
8. Undertake reactive, preventative maintenance, and calibration services for combustion/instrumentation control systems.
9. Independently troubleshoot faults, implement solutions, and monitor performance to enhance safety and production output.
10. Assist in process control planning, routine maintenance, and breakdown responses.
11. Ensure process control equipment maintenance aligns with procedures, legislation, and performance targets
12. Comply with company policies and safety regulations
13. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts
14. Maintain asset availability through planned and reactive maintenance
15. Support training and development within the team
16. Participate in investigations and contribute to problem resolution
Requirements of the Process Control Technician
Essential
17. Recognized Electrical / Process Control apprenticeship (HNC/ONC level or equivalent)
18. Previous experience in Instrumentation, Control, or Electrical systems within an industrial setting
19. Demonstrable ability to learn new skills
20. Strong problem-solving awareness
21. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings
22. Knowledge of Health Safety Legislation and adherence to SWP’s, risk assessments, and procedures
23. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems
24. Hold a full UK driving licence
Desirable
25. Experience with furnace combustion systems, air/gas ratio control, PID control, and thermocouples
26. Proficiency in measurement and instrumentation methods
27. Calibration expertise (NADCAP AMS, AS)
28. Electronics troubleshooting and repair skills
29. Familiarity with PC-based systems and communication protocols
30. Knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems (fault finding)
31. Written reporting for maintenance and reliability
32. Competence in I.E.T. Wiring Regulations
33. Experience working in confined spaces and at heights
34. Understanding of environmental monitoring (ISO )
35. Exposure to Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO)
