Job overview
Garston Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is recruiting for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner. This is an exciting opportunity to practice at an advanced level in a fast-paced environment.
The UTC service delivers care across Liverpool sites, open from 8.00 – 20.00, 7 days per week with flexible shift patterns.
You will be the Advanced Clinical Practitioner on duty to advise and support clinical decision-making and function as the point of escalation as shift coordinator. You will take charge of the shift and support management of service provision in the absence of the Services Leads.
The post holder must show commitment to supporting the development of others to ensure a consistent, quality-driven delivery of service, mentorship, and clinical supervision.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to work autonomously, be highly motivated, and deliver an advanced level of clinical practice within the recognised remit, working within local and nationally agreed frameworks for Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP). This role requires excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage challenging situations.
Within the role, you will apply your advanced skills in history taking, extended assessment, clinical examination, clinical diagnosis, treatment as appropriate, and referring to other services if required. You will support and mentor other clinical staff to develop competencies.
Clinical leadership is integral to the role, and you will be the clinical lead practitioner on duty to advise and support clinical decision-making and function as the point of escalation as shift coordinator. You will ensure smooth patient flow throughout the department and ensure a good patient experience.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Be professionally and legally accountable for all work undertaken at an advanced level of professional autonomy.
2. Deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients accessing the walk-in centre.
3. Prioritise workload and clinical interventions as appropriate.
4. Provide advanced and comprehensive health assessments.
5. Assess, examine, investigate, diagnose, and treat patients, ensuring safe management and appropriate referral or discharge.
6. Ensure informed consent is gained prior to treatment, investigation, and management.
7. Supervise and develop junior team members.
8. Identify the need for diagnostic tests, interpret results, and act on results requiring clinical intervention.
9. Proactively identify unsafe environments and escalate issues to the health and safety team/safeguarding team.
10. Share knowledge and expertise across primary and secondary care.
11. Contribute to the development and improvement of patient flow systems.
12. Identify and meet individual clinical needs of patients.
13. Complete the Independent Non-Medical Prescribing course and maintain competence.
14. Maintain up-to-date patient records according to Trust policy.
15. Adapt specialist clinical knowledge to different settings and influence service delivery.
16. Promote and adhere to the Trust's clinical governance framework.
17. Contribute to the review and development of clinical patient pathways.
18. Adhere to infection prevention control policies.
19. Maintain qualifications in Intermediate Life Support (PILS).
20. Lead on the review and implementation of NICE guidance.
21. Support junior staff with clinical competencies.
22. Act as a link for other teams within the service line.
23. Lead clinical audits.
24. Collaborate with secondary care for potential patient admissions.
