Thrive Group Oldham are currently recruiting on behalf of Leicester County Council for a Driver (Passenger Fleet).
Candidates require Children's & Adults DBS, as they will be delivering library books.
Summary of Day to Day Responsibilities:
1. Arrive at County Hall (vans are loaded already).
2. Both drivers go off on single man routes.
3. Some interactions with public and staff throughout the day; must communicate well.
4. Delivering to 8 or 9 libraries per day.
5. Climbing in and out of the van, manoeuvring crates.
6. Moving up to 4 crates max at a time using ramps.
7. Stacking them in designated areas.
8. Collecting books from libraries and taking them to Glenfield.
9. Unpacking collection crates and sorting everything (1.5 hrs).
10. Getting next day's paperwork and preparing for the next day.
11. Re-loading the van and taking it to County Hall.
12. Leaving key for the next day.
13. Communicating throughout the day with the manager.
14. Opportunity to do minibus driving through LCC later on, once established with Jayne.
Working Hours:
Standard hours (non-guaranteed): 8am - 4pm Monday - Thursday; Friday 8am - 3:30pm. Flexible working hours / Bank shift style. Shadowing at first, up to full-time for the first two weeks, then moving to 2-3 days a week but not guaranteed.
3 routes for each van available. 2 vans (6 routes total). Must learn all 6 routes before starting. Temporary position; no permanent role guaranteed.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that, before driving a vehicle, it is in a fit and serviceable condition by carrying out daily and weekly routine checks as directed. Report any defects on the appropriate form.
2. Drive any County Council operated vehicle safely and in compliance with Road Traffic Law and procedures issued by the P.F.T.
3. Maintain all vehicles in a clean, hygienic, and tidy condition both inside and out at all times.
4. Undertake minor vehicle repairs with appropriate direction from Transport Officers / Vehicle Unit.
5. Assist staff at any depot, operating centre or unit to load, unload, secure and deliver any miscellaneous goods or equipment as directed by the P.F.T.
6. Assist passengers on and off the vehicle, securing them and their wheelchairs with safety restraints.
7. Be responsible for the safety and general welfare of Service Users, reporting any incidents to the P.F.T.
8. Work to pre-planned schedules/route lists and complete any necessary documentation.
9. Communicate effectively with representatives of the County Council, Service Users, Carers, and members of the public.
10. Carry out or assist in driver/server duties on Meals service provided by the County Council.
11. Provide detailed geographical information for efficient route planning and vehicle scheduling.
12. Report all vehicle accidents and complete relevant documentation promptly.
13. Return the vehicle to the allocated depot at the end of each run or shift.
14. Drive vehicles to and from maintenance depots for servicing and repairs.
15. Complete compulsory training courses as required.
16. Perform other duties as required commensurate with the grading of the post.
