Whittington NHS Trust tri-borough Barnet are looking to recruit a dynamic qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) with strong public health focus who are fully committed to delivering and improving the health and well-being of our diverse school aged children.
Main duties of the job
As a highly motivated and dynamic school nurse, you will play a leading role in shaping our services as we are committed in meeting the health needs of children and young people through the delivery of the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme. The school nurse will deliver high quality evidence based skilled nursing care within the schools of Barnet. Whittington NHS Trust has recently taken over Barnet CYP services and we have set about redesigning our school nursing service to be accessible and visible in schools through drop in clinics. We require a school nurse who is passionate about achieving outcomes for children, young people and families.
You will be responsible for a defined caseload of secondary schools, and supporting junior staff with the management of primary schools. This will involve working in collaboration with parents/carers, education and other multi agency professionals.

Applicants must hold a Specialist Community Public Health Qualification in School Nursing. This is a definite requirement for the position and applicants who apply without the qualification will NOT be shortlisted.
Job responsibilities
* Demonstrate leadership skills and understanding of professional responsibilities within the team
* Be a lead for supporting the education of students and junior staff
* In depth knowledge of child and family public health practice and be able to embed across the service
* A named nurse to a high school and cluster of primary schools
* To write clear concise treatment plans with reviews carried out within expected timeframes.
* To be able to identify health needs and signpost appropriately.
* To keep health at the heart of education
* To deliver training sessions to other professionals on relevant health or medical issues
* Support schools and children and young people to manage their own health conditions independently

Essential
* RSCN or RN (Child Branch) or Equivalent
* Specialist Community Public Health School Nursing (SCPHN) qualification

* Evidence of Post Registration Training and Development

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in an effective way with people from a variety of backgrounds and different ages
* To demonstrate the ability to reflect on clinical practice to enhance professional/personal development
* Ability to prioritise and effectively manage own workload
* Basic Information Technology Skills use of Sys1, RIO and teams
* Good organisational Skills
* Application of research/evidence base to good practice
