We are looking for an experienced enthusiastic and motivated orthoptist to join our friendly team to cover a period of maternity leave.
The ophthalmology team consist of 5 orthoptists, 5 optometrists, 7 ophthalmic technicians, 3 medical photographers and 16 consultant ophthalmologists based at Aintree Hospital. Liverpool University Hospitals NHS foundation trust is a Merged Trust with the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and is a leading teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre for the North West and has strong links with The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The successful candidate will be based at Aintree site and involved in specialist clinics including ocular motility, neuro-ophthalmology, endocrine, ocular plastics, medical retina, glaucoma and cataract, including, biometry measurements. Also taking referrals from maxillo-facial, A&E and other departments. We have clinical teaching commitments for undergraduate students therefore a teaching qualification and clinical teaching experience will be beneficial. The post holder must have significant experience to be able to work single handed as well as part of a team.

To provide highly skilled Orthoptic services to aid in the diagnosis and management of all types of ocular motility disorders as well as Biometry measurements prior to cataract surgery. Training will be provided.
To provide these services as an autonomous practitioner to Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Aintree site and to work closely with the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neuro surgery.
Provide clinical teaching and assessments to Undergraduate Orthoptic University students and hold a recognised clinical teaching certificate.

To use advanced specialist skills, knowledge and experience to provide a high quality, comprehensive and highly specialised Orthoptic service to patients with complicated and routine ocular motility defects - within
the Ophthalmology Directorate.
To independently diagnose all cases of ocular motility defects and develop effective treatment plans and refer onto other Health Care Professionals and Doctors as required.
To provide additional specialist clinical skills, beyond the scope of Orthoptics, to aid diagnosis and development of treatment plans within the Department of Ophthalmology.
To provide specialist advice and act as a source of expertise on the management of Ocular Motility disorders and provide advice regarding additional specialist technical services to Consultants, Junior Doctors, Highly Specialist and Specialist Nurses and other Health Care Professionals and Medical staff.
To educate and provide clinical teaching and assessments to undergraduate orthoptic university students, optometrists, ophthalmologists, health care professionals, doctors and other medical personnel. To ideally hold a recognised clinical teaching certificate.
To work collaboratively and co-operatively with other clinicians to influence service development and ensure quality care is delivered.
