Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Occupational Therapists to join our inpatient services at Northgate hospital. The posts are available on a low secure mental health ward and a specialist medium secure personality disorder unit.
Secure Care is a regional and national service offering care and treatment to individuals with diagnoses of Mental Health Conditions, Learning Disabilities, and Personality Disorder within conditions of medium and low secure inpatients and community teams.
You will assess the impact of a person’s mental illness or personality disorder on their occupational performance to understand their strengths and needs and formulate a plan to support their engagement in occupation, promoting independence and community participation using the Model of Human Occupational theoretical framework.
Main duties of the job
1. To be responsible for the assessment and management of a caseload of service users with complex Occupational Therapy needs.
2. In partnership with the Service Users and Carers, develop collaborative intervention plans, ensuring regular reviews to monitor progress.
3. To consider Carer needs and ensure they are involved in Care Planning.
4. To deliver evidenced based Occupational therapy interventions.
5. Work as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team ensuring high quality individualised care.
6. Coordinate treatment planning & interventions, reviews and discharge planning.
7. Provide clinical supervision and leadership to staff as delegated by Clinical Lead.
8. To provide compassionate care based on empathy, kindness, respect, and dignity.
9. Incorporate a client centred philosophy into clinical practice.
Person specification
Knowledge and experience
* Experience of working with Mental Health & Learning Disabilities.
* Experience of using the Model of Human Occupation.
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and RCOT standards.
* Forensic experience.
Education and qualifications
* BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registered.
* Commitment to complete fieldwork education training.
* Member of RCOT.
Skills and competencies
* Effective written and communication skills.
* Effective time and caseload management skills.
* Proven ability to develop therapeutic partnerships with service users and carers.
* Ability to provide evidence based therapeutic interventions.
* Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
