Consultant in Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit

To provide the highest quality care to patients on the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit within the Berrywood Hospital, Northampton.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will play a pivotal role in ensuring proactive, recovery-focused, individualised treatment plans are in place and being followed for each patient. He will be supported with a team of professionals who have been recruited specifically for this unit. Our intention is to have a short length of stay to manage only the acute phase of illness and support care in the least restrictive manner.

Person Specification
Knowledge
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
* Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act
* Minimum of six years postgraduate experience (including three years as SpR in approved training post) or equivalent
* Additional Postgraduate Qualifications
* Management training
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
* Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals
* Ability to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members
* An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
* Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year pro rata per annum
