This is an opportunity to develop and enhance technical underwriting skills with the help of the Marine team and the internal Learning and Development department.
About the Department & Team:
The Marine Hull and War team represents two of the seven underwriting portfolios that sit within our Marine division. We provide Marine Hull insurance for a wide range of vessels and carriers on a global basis, from the largest, most sophisticated cruise vessels through to bulk carriers, tankers, gas carriers, reefer vessels, harbour and offshore support vessels. Our team has a strong presence in the London market, operating both on the Lloyds and Company platform. The team works closely with their partners to tailor their products to the changing market conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the execution of the annual business plan development in accordance with the stated risk tolerances.
2. Support the teams in maintaining and developing broker relationships.
3. Assist the team with day-to-day duties in quoting, reviewing renewals and new business.
4. Act as a conduit between the underwriters and underwriting assistants.
5. Use rating tools and portals to support data capture across the portfolio. Where appropriate, analyse this data and provide insights back to the underwriting team.
6. Contribute and participate in all meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
7. Contribute new ideas and concepts to support the development and delivery of the business plan.
8. Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to support the performance of the underwriting team.
9. Support the analysis and subsequent review of the output to identify opportunities and/or trends to assist the team in achieving business objectives.
10. Process entries, as required, onto relevant systems in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregate exposures.
11. Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements as part of the role, demonstrating behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, relating to the role, which is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. Understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and proactively demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviours at all times.

Skills and Experience:
1. Solid understanding of insurance business practices focused on the London market. Knowledge of Marine Hull and War insurance is desirable but not required.
2. Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
3. Intermediate level understanding of Excel and other relevant software.
