Are you looking for a career move that will put you at the heart of a global financial institution? Then bring your skills in portfolio management, communication and analytics to Citi’s New Activity Risk Management (NARM) team.
By Joining Citi, you will become part of a global organisation whose mission is to serve as a trusted partner to our clients by responsibly providing financial services that enable growth and economic progress.
Team / Role Overview:
New Activity Risk Management (NARM) is a part of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) organization responsible for the design and implementation of firm-wide frameworks and practices that are integral and fundamental to Risk Management within Citi. Within NARM, the New Activity Approval Process provides robust diligence, review, and approvals for new or modified products, services, and capabilities, ensuring appropriate ongoing controls. It’s a team of approximately 100 individuals based all around the world aligned to various sub-teams and disciplines, with the majority of the team being New Activity Risk Managers who are responsible for the robust risk management of each new activity proposal.
In early 2024, a Performance team was stood up within NARM to focus on optimizing end to end approval times for new activities. It’s a team of 4 individuals all currently based in London. The team brings operational discipline to NARM and in doing so, acts as a necessary behavioural and practical supplementation to the broader NARM team; supporting New Activity Risk Managers through dynamic and organized portfolio management, problem solving, and generation of insights - continuously striving for velocity and efficiency across the pipeline.
What you’ll do:
Reporting into the Global Head of Performance for NARM, your primary focus will be as the Global Performance Manager for our Banking and Services businesses. These two businesses together account for approximately 25-35% of the overall new activity pipeline at any given time.
Assume that each new activity proposal is like a train. The main focus of your role would be to clearly understand where each individual train is, where it needs to get to, and how we make sure it gets there on time. To do so you would work closely with New Activity Risk Managers to understand proposal progress, and in the event blockages are identified collaborating to formulate solutions to move things along. This would involve daily interaction with front office staff looking to get their new activities approved, and with technical specialists from our reviewing functions tasked with reviewing these proposals. Your role would have no regional limitations with stakeholders situated all around the world.
The role involves:
* Setting the tone through detailed daily monitoring, engagement and intervention across the Banking and Services proposal pipeline.
* Engaging with New Activity Risk Managers to understand progress and blockages. Problem solving, agreeing actions, holding yourself and others accountable for progress. Escalating and challenging where appropriate.
* Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with the front office and technical reviewers respectively, managing expectations and using your influencing skills to drive outcomes.
* Implementing and performing expert project management to our highest priority proposals using tried and tested project management principles & mechanisms.
* Influencing, implementing and upskilling others in deploying project management principles in their approach to managing proposals.
* Identifying process and technology improvements relating to Performance, working with NARM Change Delivery to make them a reality.
* Generating and presenting insights on the proposal pipeline e.g. How are approval durations trending? What stages of the process are causing the biggest challenges? Which reviewers are taking the longest time to approve and why?
What we'll need from you:
The key traits we’re looking for in a candidate are energy, accountability, communication and organisation. Specific skills and experience include:
* Solid working in the Banking and Capital Markets sector (either in-house, or at a recognised Consulting firm).
* Program and Portfolio Management skills and experience. You will have a track record of delivering complex projects to agreed outcomes.
* You will require a high level of IT proficiency. Specifically:
o Strong proficiency in Excel (e.g. use of xlookups, pivot tables etc) in order to extract and interpret data from our underpinning technology platform.
o Elevated proficiency in Powerpoint to present insights to groups including Senior Management in NARM, Front Office and Risk Functions.
o No previous experience in Tableau is necessary. However, if you do not have it, you will be required to upskill on the job so your comfort with analytics should allow you to do so.
* Confident communicator with a track record of being able to influence others.
* Strong teamwork and independent problem-solving skills.
* Leadership and accountability. You will own your pipeline and take pride in it delivering to a high standard.
* Resilient under pressure with strong work ethic.
* High integrity and ability to manage confidential data.
