We are seeking to employ a caring, empathetic nurse who can contribute to the care of the acutely unwell patients attending Surgical SDEC.
Health Care Assistant
Department: Same Day Emergency Care
Band: 2/3 Depending On Experience
Hours: 27.5 hours part time
At triage we obtain vital signs, bloods and urine to help with diagnosis, and with training you will be asked to help with these diagnostic tests. When you have obtained competencies in these extended skills your grade may possibly increase from Band 2 to Band 3.
You may also be asked to collaborate with other teams within MKUH: such as radiology, pathology and medicine.
Good communication skills towards colleagues and clients are essential as we provide information to patients about future appointments in SDEC and updates on their ongoing care. It is important that you are able to deliver accurate information via telephone calls and in person.
Patient records are electronic; therefore, it is important that you are computer literate. At induction, you will receive all the necessary training in order that you can use the various programs for patient care.
At times your role may include providing a short period of cover at the reception desk, booking in patients as they arrive in SDEC.
Also, we ask all of the HCA to undertake housekeeping duties such as ordering of stores and stocks, stocking up of clinic trolleys, unpacking and daily cleaning, all necessary for SDEC to function efficiently.
Interview: Week commencing 17.03.2025
MKUH staff scored highest for ‘I look forward to coming to work’ (NHS Staff Survey 2023).
The role of the Healthcare Assistant is to assist the nursing team in the delivery of safe effective care to the patient, supporting patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
