About the Role: An Assistant Director (Scotland) in the Banking and Investments Team will focus on local business development for both Private Sector and Local Authority teams. The role involves supporting the Scottish Regional Director, deputising as necessary, in building relationships with local government and institutions, and developing a pipeline of potential investment opportunities. The role holder will act as an ambassador for the National Wealth Fund in Scotland. Core Role Accountabilities Market Engagement: Support the Scottish Regional Director in engaging with investors, developers, banks, and industry to enhance the profile of the National Wealth Fund in Scotland. Attend industry events and roundtables. Business Development: Proactively generate new investment opportunities using the full product suite, including debt, equity, and guarantees, to deliver financing solutions in Scotland aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives. Evaluate Potential Projects: Work closely with Deal Teams to provide local knowledge as input for New Deal Forum papers commenting on commercial viability, impact and policy credentials. Internal Collaboration: Work collaboratively, with a dispersed team, to share expertise, contribute to sector strategies, and assess the suitability of prospective deals. Build External Relationships: Develop positive working relationships with external stakeholders, including government departments, similar arms-length bodies, investors, advisers, and project sponsors. Lead and Mentor: Act as a role model and mentor for junior team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning. Support National Wealth Fund activities in other parts of the United Kingdom as required, including regular visits to Head Office in Leeds. Knowledge, Skills & Experience Business Development: Proven skills in business development and marketing within the corporate sector. Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to represent the National Wealth Fund with senior stakeholders. Strong communication skills including public speaking for panels. Financial Services Expertise: Knowledge of financial services gained through roles in investment, corporate, or commercial banking, or through close interaction with the sector. Economy & Policy Insight: Knowledge of Scotland’s economy and business community, and Scottish and UK Government policies relevant to the fund’s mandate. Relationship Building: Confident in building and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders across a wide geography / dispersed team. Self-Starter: Ability to design workplans, build alliances, and drive progress with a proactive approach to addressing issues.
