Job summary To be an efficient, flexible member of the laboratory and wider Pathology service providing a consistently high quality and professional service. The Operational Managers for Cellular Pathology are key members of the Cellular Pathology Team. As such responsibilities extend beyond the technical performance of the department, the post-holder will be expected to assist in the management of resources (staff, equipment, consumables and premises), with a view to achieving optimum quality and efficiency. The Operational Managers will play a lead role within his/her speciality and will be expected to respond positively to the changing demand on the service, through innovation, communication, setting standards and achieving results. The Operational Manager for Cellular Pathology will be expected to deputise for the Service Lead and other Operational Managers in their absence. Main duties of the job Ensure high standards of technical and scientific performance and efficiency throughout the specialty at all times, initiating improvements and changes in working practice Assist the Head BMS with the deployment of BMS and MLA staff within the specialty in order to respond to changing demands and ensure appropriate staff distribution to meet service needs Assist in the selection and recruitment of staff, induction and orientation programmes. Assist Head BMS with healthy employee relations within the speciality, ensuring consultation with all grades of staff. Facilitate good two-way communication within the department. Advise the Head BMS on new technology, techniques, equipment and systems, which will facilitate improved efficiency and quality. Review in conjunction with the Head BMS, Operational Managers and senior team the performance of each relevant member of the speciality team, setting objectives, assessing achievement and delivering improved productivity - perform Internal Performance Reviews annually. Assist the Head BMS with the implementation of advice and recommendations arising out of existing and new legislation as it affects the department.
