We are pleased to be working with a pioneering renewable energy business in the North of England. They are seeking an ambitious 3rd line engineer for their telecoms team. Position Overview The 3rd Line Telecommunications Engineer will be tasked with delivering advanced technical assistance, carrying out in-depth diagnostics and collaborating with other support teams to maintain the highest standards of service reliability and performance. This role demands extensive technical expertise, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to lead critical initiatives. Primary Duties Provide 3rd line support for telecommunication infrastructures, including VoIP, SIP, PSTN, and mobile networks. Troubleshoot and resolve intricate technical issues escalated from 1st and 2nd Line Support teams. Perform root cause analysis for recurring problems and implement permanent solutions. Conduct advanced configuration, maintenance, and surveillance of telecom systems and devices. Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and improvements to ensure peak performance. Lead and engage in telecom projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments. Partner with other IT teams and third-party vendors to guarantee project success. Oversee and document the progression of major incidents from the initial report to final resolution, including post-incident evaluations. Establish and maintain incident response protocols and procedures. Offer expert guidance and support to clients and internal teams on telecommunications-related matters, including conducting training sessions. Ensure clear, timely, and efficient communication with stakeholders regarding the status and resolution timelines of issues. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, such as network schematics, configuration manuals, and operational procedures. Create and deliver training materials and sessions for 1st and 2nd Line Support teams. Identify opportunities to enhance telecom processes and methodologies. Keep current with emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices. Experience At least 5 years of experience in a telecommunications support role, with a minimum of 2 years in a 3rd line or similar expert-level position. Proficient in telecom infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other telecom hardware. In-depth understanding of telecom protocols and systems such as VoIP, SIP, PSTN, and mobile networks. Experience with telecom monitoring and diagnostic tools. Familiarity with telecom regulations and compliance standards. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
