The role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
At Craig y Parc School, the HLTA is an integral part of our team. The HLTA supports the education and development of all pupils, assisting teachers by contributing to learning plans, maintaining pupil data, and ensuring a conducive learning environment. In addition, they provide invaluable support to pupils through delivering targeted interventions and supporting the wider learning support team where needed, using their experience and expertise to offer guidance and advice.
About You
Hours: 37.5 Hours per week, term time only
Salary: £21,725- £23,565 Per Annum
Job Responsibilities
Supporting Teaching and Learning
1. Assist the Class Teacher with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
2. Know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individuals, small groups, and/or classes, modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
3. Provide high quality, challenging, and differentiated educational activities and experiences through delivering a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
4. Support the day-to-day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a class teacher.
5. Select and adapt appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities.
6. Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
7. Take an active role in key areas of responsibility across the school including displays and organizing resources, writing risk assessments, and supporting the use of ICT within classes.
8. Contribute to the development and implementation of individual plans for pupils, including attendance at and contribution to reviews if requested.
9. Support the role of parents/carers in pupils’ learning and contribute to meetings with parents/carers to provide constructive feedback on pupil progress/achievement.
10. Take an additional area of responsibility – risk assessment coordination across the school, manual handling coordinator, MDT link, ICT, etc.
Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding
1. Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
2. Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes.
3. Monitor pupils' conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve highly complex, difficult, or very challenging issues, keeping records of incidents, health, behaviour, etc. as necessary.
4. Ensure a high standard of personal care for the pupils, carefully monitoring their health and wellbeing, and informing the care staff, medical staff, and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.
5. Promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.
6. Promote pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development, and spiritual wellbeing through CYPs curriculum.
7. Work with pupils on therapy or care programmes designed and supervised by a HCPC registered professional.
8. Work cooperatively with colleagues, parents/carers, and professionals involved, following a multidisciplinary approach and supporting the pupils’ curriculum.
9. Attend to pupils’ personal needs when required, including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and eating, as well as helping with social, welfare, and health matters.
Pupil Attainment and Progress
1. Assess, record, and report on development, progress, and attainment.
2. Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support their learning.
3. Work cooperatively with other staff and professionals involved with pupils in the class, following a multi-disciplinary approach and supporting the pupils’ curriculum.
Monitoring and Recording Progress
1. Participate in the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
2. Provide meaningful feedback on pupil attainment and progress.
3. Monitor and record pupil responses and learning achievement, drawing any issues which cannot be resolved to the attention of the teacher.
4. Ensure that all documentation is completed correctly for records of incidents, health, behaviour, etc. as necessary.
