The Faculty of Advocates is a modern and forward-thinking professional body with a long and interesting history, as part of the fabric of Scottish Society since at least 1532, with a mix of both historic and modern traditions. We are the professional body for Advocates in Scotland. We educate, develop, regulate and represent our members who are 460 practising Advocates as well as other members who are not practising. We are run by elected Office Bearers headed up by the Dean of Faculty. The following vacancy has arisen within the Dean’s Secretariat:

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday: - 9.00am -5.00pm
Operating under a hybrid working policy
Salary: Grade 3a £33,847 - £41,141 per annum
All new appointments will be made at the start of the salary scale

The post of Secretariat Compliance Officer will report to the Dean’s Secretariat Team Leader and, as part of a small team, will support the Faculty of Advocates through its Office Bearers and Co-CEOs, especially concerning the two departmental workstreams related to administrative responsibilities in Compliance and Governance. Key responsibilities include supporting the Co-CEO and Chair of the Regulatory Compliance Committee in administering the Faculty’s regulatory responsibilities; administer and co-ordinate processes and procedures including Faculty responses to Law Reform Consultations, Complaints and Disciplinary Rule Process, policies in relation to Data Protection, Immigration & Charity Regulations and the Faculty Quality Assurance Programme. The post will also include assisting in governance duties of the Dean’s Secretariat and general office duties, along with arranging Faculty events including conferences and receptions.
At least five years’ experience working with the management of confidential data and administrative office skills, of which a minimum of two years’ experience of working in a UK regulated environment is essential. The post holder may have less years’ experience, provided they possess the necessary knowledge of UK Financial Regulations, skills and expertise to perform the role. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure while maintaining motivation and enthusiasm and demonstrating diplomacy and discretion. Working knowledge of all Microsoft 365 packages and numerous video conferencing applications (e.g. Zoom, Webex, Teams) is required.
