Job summary We are looking for an experienced scrub practitioner to join our acute operating theatre team in York hospital. Our acute operating theatre team covers 365 days of the year 24 hours a day. They are responsible for treating patients with acute and life-threatening injuries and illnesses, from across our region. The surgical specialties covered by the acute team include Maxillofacial, ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, Vascular, Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast, Plastics and Trauma. To apply you must be an experienced theatre practitioner with scrub experience in some or all of these specialties. You will be given a 6 week supernumerary period and will work with our clinical educators to gain experience and training in any specialties you are not familiar with, and complete a skills book to demonstrate this.In addition to scrub experience, you should show: Passion, enthusiasm and commitment to provide patient centred care. A positive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research evidence. A willingness to supervise and teach junior staff and colleagues and share learning through clinical supervision. The ability to work as an integral member of the team. Have a can-do attitude. Be adaptable and able to prioritise workload Main duties of the job Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures Maintain a safe and clean working environment Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept. Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information. Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures Education and Training Our shift pattern covers 24 hours. All shifts are 11.5 hours minus breaks, 07.45-20.15 or 20.00-08.00, covering weekends and bank holidays. You must be able to commit to a rotating shift pattern. The minimum hours available are 34.5 hrs (3 shifts a week).
