As an Estimator, you will play a key role in determining the works required and establishing the best contract price to deliver the project. This involves extensive liaison with sub-contractors and suppliers to obtain accurate prices against strict deadlines. You will manage the financial element of the tender to ensure minimal risk exposure while exploring potential opportunities and savings to gain an advantage.
Key departmental responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
1. Reporting to the Senior Estimator. Key interfaces will also include the Managing Director and Executive Director.
2. Producing customer quotations based on information provided by the customer.
3. Overseeing projects to ensure costs remain in line with forecasts.
4. Providing recommendations for reducing costs.
5. Compiling bids for work.
6. Calculating the cost of materials, transport, labour, and equipment hire.
7. Obtaining quotes for all predicted requirements from sub-contractors and suppliers.
8. Setting appropriate costs for labour.
9. Collating detailed price lists of everything needed on each construction project and producing a cost summary.
10. Researching possible new customers through the use of tender portals.
11. Building relationships and understanding clients’ needs and requirements.
12. Clarifying the client's needs and expectations.
13. Reading blueprints and taking measurements.
14. Making use of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word, and Autodesk DWG TrueView.
15. Assessing and adhering to all risk assessments and health and safety requirements.
16. Keeping up to date with inflation, exchange rates, and projected timescale costs.
17. Staying up to date with the latest construction technology.
18. Making visits to proposed construction sites.
19. Liaising with others including contracts and site supervisors.
20. Presenting bids to clients and answering their questions.
21. Completing work quality submissions.
22. Preparing and submitting quotations for work.
