Senior Product/Process Development Scientist – Cambridge, UK

A Cambridge-based venture-backed start-up is looking for a Senior Product/Process Development Scientist to join their mission-driven team. About the Role:
As the Senior Product/Process Development Scientist, you’ll be responsible for enhancing product performance, quality, and user satisfaction. Your role will involve analyzing current processes, identifying areas for improvement, and optimizing manufacturing processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. You’ll work cross-functionally with teams across production, R&D, and quality assurance, helping to scale processes and align them with the company’s growth goals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Process Analysis : Identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement in current processes.
* Product Evaluation : Evaluate and enhance product performance and quality.
* Research & Development : Develop new methodologies or technologies for product/process improvement.
* Data Analysis : Collect and analyze data to support decision-making and track performance.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work with engineering, manufacturing, and marketing teams to implement improvements.
* Testing & Validation : Design and execute experiments to test new processes or product modifications.
* Documentation : Maintain detailed records of methodologies and findings.
* Training & Support : Train teams on new processes or product changes.
* Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 13485, IVDD/IVDR).
* Continuous Improvement : Lead or participate in projects to foster ongoing enhancement.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
* Degree in Chemistry or Life Science-related discipline (knowledge of surface chemistry is a plus).
* 5+ years’ experience in lateral flow device manufacturing or in the diagnostics/medical device field.
* 3+ years’ experience in tech transfer from R&D.
* Expertise in microfluidics, immunoassays, and colorimetric sensing systems.
* Hands-on experience working with biomolecules (proteins, antibodies, metabolites).
* Proficiency in quality systems (ISO 13485) and knowledge of in-vitro diagnostic regulations (IVDD, IVDR).
* Strong communication skills and experience in cross-functional team settings.
* Motivated, organized, and capable of working independently with high accountability.
