As our�Building Surveyor, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.�

Your world of�expertise�
Our property and facilities team have responsibility for delivering hard and soft facilities management services at Exeter and frontline locations. You will concentrate on the surveying related duties at our UK sites.�Our properties are a mixture of leasehold and freehold, approximately 10 of which are occupied by Met Office staff, the remainder are unoccupied operational sites ( radar structures).��
You will also�support�projects and deliver discreet tasks on the frontline estate and at Exeter HQ, within�agreed�building surveying principles and professional standards.
Your key duties�
6. You will undertake periodic inspections of the Met Office estate. �You will monitor condition, identify maintenance needs and ensure maintenance issues are addressed. �This will involve frequent travel across the UK.
7. You will assist with the preparation of works specifications, technical briefs and�tender�documentation.�You will also be required to provide technical guidance to assist with the delivery of projects and maintenance activities.�
8. You will provide technical expertise, advice and guidance when called upon by members of property management, as well as colleagues in the wider Met Office to ensure compliance with the required standards is not overlooked.
Person specification
Essential Criteria,�skills�and experience:�
9. You are an expert by nature with (or working towards) a relevant surveying or construction professional qualification ( MRICS MCIOB). �You will�have successfully completed a construction related academic pathway in building surveying or construction.
10. An ability to keep evolving and apply knowledge and expertise to ensure the Met Office complies with its statutory duties.
11. Have a keen interest in the built environment and demonstrate an�understanding�of different building methods. Experience in managing construction and building fabric maintenance is required.
12. Demonstrate capability, knowledge and experience in�tendering�small works and�understand�the related contract law applicable to contracts.�
13. You work better together in a team and use your communication skills (oral and written) to provide proactively advice and support delivery of work.
14. Hold a valid UK driving licence and be prepared to drive officially provided pool vehicles.
15. Working knowledge�of AutoCAD LT, MS Outlook, Excel and Word

As our�Building Surveyor, your total reward package will be up to �46,974 annually, which includes:�
16. �33,794 base pay.
17. An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%.
18. Recruitment Retention Allowance�(RRA)�you will be paid �2,800 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this marketdrivenallowance from April 2024 until September 2025 in your monthly�pay.
19. Annual Leave starting at days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and�option�to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual�leave.
