Job Summary The Coordinator, Fitness & Wellness will develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of fitness and wellness programming to improve the health and well-being of the Old Dominion Community. This position is responsible for maintaining current certifications and continuing education related to the recreation field. Assist Assistant Director in hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating graduate assistants, and student and hourly staff. Minimum Qualifications A Master’s degree in exercise science, recreation, or sports management; or a bachelor’s degree in areas previously indicated or a related field of study with work experience equivalent to Master’s degree. Excellent organizational, management, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other individuals and departments on camps and in the surrounding community Ability to maintain confidentially and work with a diverse population including: students, faculty, staff, and community High level of organizational skills and proven record of delivering quality results in a timely manner Proven ability to manage projects and deliver results Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills Ability to think critically and present information is essential. Excellent computer skills: Work experience within a collegiate setting is highly preferred Knowledge of student development theory preferred Must be proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, experienced in desktop publishing, and willing to learn new programs Some experience in the development and implementation of programs in a variety of fitness and wellness areas, including but not limited to exercise prescription and program design; nutrition education; stress and time management; weight management. First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required. Possession of or ability to acquire a valid Virginia State driver’s license is required. A minimum of 1 nationally recognized fitness certification such as: AFAA, ACSM, NASM, ACE, NSCA, or CSCS in Personal Training is required. Preferred Qualifications Additional certifications i.e. Group Exercise Instructor or Personal Training are preferred. Some experience with staff management, student employee management, revenue projection, and/or fitness program management are preferred. Preferred experience in campus recreation.
