The Role:
As a Production Day Support Operator, you will be responsible for supporting site production capabilities and ensuring that all equipment is operated in accordance with SIG’s ZERO EHS impact philosophy. You will work in accordance with site standards, procedures, and legislation while contributing to continuous improvement in productivity.
How You Will Make an Impact:
* Support Production Management in the day-to-day operation of the production units, boilerhouse, and effluent plants.
* Gather and analyse data to support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Complete management of change (MOC) forms to assist plant modifications.
* Write and update standard operating procedures.
* Engage in and promote the Company observation programme.
* Contribute to the Operator training programme by ensuring training material is current and relevant.
* Provide cover for shift operators during long-term absences within the shift team after appropriate training.
* Must be able to work a 6 on 4 off shift rota for long periods operating a Production unit.
* Assist with the management of Site wastes, including organising the removal of both bulk and drummed wastes.
* Load and offload raw materials and finished products, covering for the Despatch department during holidays or peak workload periods.
* Identify, address, and resolve root causes of mechanical downtime in collaboration with Production Management, Maintenance, and Engineering.
* Participate in plant maintenance activities using basic fitting skills after receiving appropriate training.
* Manage small projects such as tank cleaning, including liaising with external contractors.
* Write risk assessments and method statements for tasks carried out across the site.
* Participate in event investigations and root cause analysis.
Creating Extraordinary Starts With:
* Education to A Levels or higher, preferably in science or mathematics.
* Knowledge of relevant technical equipment, reliability drivers, and troubleshooting techniques.
* Proficient execution of 5S and other lean management principles and methodologies.
* Strong decision-making and judgment skills aligned with department objectives.
* Understanding of maintenance standards, procedures, and industry best practices.
* Ability to apply practical problem-solving techniques to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
* Capability to work independently with limited direction and meet deadlines.
