Director and Garden Designer at Rob Hardy & Co
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the design team at Rob Hardy & Co, based in our studio on the beautiful Harewood Estate. We welcome applications for both part-time and full-time permanent positions.
As a creative and motivated professional, you will bring enthusiasm, organisation, and a strong team spirit—helping to build our reputation for excellence. You may already have experience in the sector, perhaps running your own design studio or working within an established practice. A good knowledge of Vectorworks is essential. However, if you are trained in another CAD software, we will provide support to help you transition smoothly. In this role, you will be a key part of our design team, working closely with Rob and collaborating with our employed and freelance designers. You will contribute to delivering outstanding projects, ensuring they meet the high standards our clients expect.

Key objectives of the role
1. Create beautiful and compelling designs that satisfy a range of clients
2. Manage design projects from start to finish, communicating with the client and our team
3. Work to project timescales to ensure the design process is prompt and efficient
4. Help develop processes and techniques alongside the team
Responsibilities
1. Design well-annotated concept plans using Vectorworks
2. Prepare master plans and construction details using Vectorworks
3. Create imaginative planting plans
4. Work effectively with different teams, individuals, and attend site visits when required
5. Keep pace with new products, materials, design ideas and current trends
6. Demonstrate enthusiasm and attention to detail in all aspects of the role
7. Look for opportunities for continual improvement in all that we do
Attributes
1. Fully qualified landscape designer, landscape architect or experienced garden designer
2. Excellent standards of design and presentation
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
4. Good horticultural knowledge
5. Good knowledge of construction and materials
6. Solid organisational and planning skills
7. Ideally will have a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
Preferred qualifications
1. Relevant Degree or Diploma in Landscape Architecture or Garden Design
2. Knowledge and experience of Vectorworks
3. Knowledge of creating visuals in Adobe Photoshop
