Job Description Could you make a difference to help keep our roads safe? Do you enjoy engaging with the community and have a passion for educating people about road safety? If so, then you should apply to become a Road Safety Education Support Volunteer for Avon and Somerset Constabulary. This role has been created to educate and engage the public to potentially assist in the reduction of collisions and increase road safety by improving the quality of driving on our roads. As a Road Safety Volunteer you will deliver the assets and assist staff and officers to set up and attend the events around the force area. You will communicate and educate members of the community about road safety. It should be noted that events will be out doors and can last all day. There will be regular breaks, but prospective volunteers should be prepared for long days. Other Responsibilities Include Collect, deliver and return road safety assets around the force area (this will involve towing using a police vehicle) Assist with the set up and take down of road safety assets at events (such as manoeuvring trailers on site, set up of gazebo, display boards etc.) Engage with the public positively and appropriately alongside paid members of the organisation and partners with the aim of promoting corporate road safety messages Skills And Experience Required Experience of towing large items (and willing to undergo a short towing familiarisation session with a trained police officer which will include the roadworthiness of trailers). An interest and desire to educate the public on road safety matters. Ability to be confident and effective in engaging with the public. It would also be desirable for the volunteer to have some knowledge of road safety matters, but not essential. We are hoping to find a volunteer who can hep support at events during the primary event season. Over the course of a year this is not a huge commitment, but it can include weekends/weekdays. We are fairly flexible, our wish is to expand the events across the force area. Eligibility You must be 18 years of age or over to be able to apply and hold a full driving licence. To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
