Nature and Scope: As part of the company's highways team contribute to the overall aims of the company through the efficient operation of the gully cleansing programme and delivery of the work programme. Job Purpose: Reporting to the Operations Supervisor (Highways), the gully cleansing team will be responsible for the day - to - day gully cleansing programme and emergency remedial work. They will also ensure high levels of customer service are maintained, deliver on specific targets, including health & safety and compliance and achieving the work plans. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Provide an efficient and effective gully and mechanical street cleansing service including the removal and safe disposal of associated waste materials in any area to designated standards and in accordance with predetermined schedules. Attending drainage related call outs to deal with blockages or pipe cleaning during regular maintenance programmes. Safely operate a high - pressure jetting system to unblock drains/gullies as and when required. Assisting other teams with pre surfacing sites, cleansing and jetting gullies and pipes before resurfacing projects commence. Working alongside site engineers ahead of capital works schemes. Drive and/or operate a range of specialist vehicles to provide efficient and effective logistical and operational support to all teams. Complete all required paperwork to accurately record the resources used and progress of work in accordance with corporate procedures, including use of PDAs and /or vehicle installed GPS in - cab devices where available. Ensure the safety of other employees, the public and other road users in relation to the work undertaken including the safe use of all heavy & light plant, equipment and tools. Investigate a variety of drainage problems, using your own initiative and dynamic risk assessment to find solutions where possible and refer more complex issues and/or report other areas where you consider there are potential problems to your immediate supervisor. Carry out routine vehicle driver and equipment operator checks in accordance with established procedures. Work across the frontline services within their allocated area team and carry out other similar HGV driver/operator duties when required. Ensure that work is performed in a safe and responsible manner in compliance with the relevant risk assessment. Liaise with service users and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. Person Specification: Clean UK driving licence for the correct class of vehicle (minimum category C) Driver Certificate of Professional Competence Able to competently operate machinery. Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and able to follow health and safety procedures and safe systems of work. Ability to complete paperwork. Knowledge of Kaarbontech software or similar gully cleansing software. To be able to carry out daily checks and understand their importance. Ability to work flexibly and commit to team working. Ability to be polite and respectful with general public and colleagues. Good timekeeping Previous experience of working outside in all seasons. Able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to undertake physical lifting and carrying. Desirable: Worked using PPE. Previous operational experience including mechanical sweeper and jetting. Local area knowledge
