A well-respected specialist school near Guildford is looking for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The students range between 7 and 16 years old and face a variety of SEMH challenges, including trauma, anxiety, OCD, and behavioral issues. Some children have suffered adverse childhood experiences, and you will identify their risks and needs, escalating where necessary. You will be instrumental in building relationships, providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life, thereby reducing the risk of them entering the criminal justice system.
The ideal Mental Health Teaching Assistant must be open-minded, resilient, and knowledgeable about mental health. The perfect candidate will have experience with SEN children and/or adults in any setting. Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, or Counselling would also be ideal for this position.
This role is based on holistic and therapeutic practice, with a focus on restorative practice, and will provide essential restorative experience within anti-social and challenging settings.
