The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated Newcastle Hospitals Urgent & Emergency Care team.
We are looking for an existing General Practitioner to join us as a Clinical Director in Urgent Care and work with us to transform urgent and emergency care pathways across a range of services including the Urgent Treatment Centres, Acute Medicine, the Emergency Department, and Paediatric Emergency Department. The postholder would also be expected to provide clinical sessions to the Urgent Treatment Centre. We are currently building a new Urgent Treatment Centre at the Royal Victoria Infirmary co-located alongside our existing Emergency Department and Major Trauma Centre and adjacent to our Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency Care department. The successful candidate would be expected to play a leading role in developing the new Urgent Treatment Centre and the new ways of working alongside other key services.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will support the transformation of urgent and emergency care pathways within the Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Hospitals Trust and the wider city of Newcastle. The postholder will oversee the governance, quality, and development of primary care services embedded within the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centres, and Same Day Emergency Care. The postholder will work in partnership with partners in the trust to provide leadership to Urgent & Emergency Care services as we move to a more integrated model of delivering care. This will include but not be limited to working with clinical leaders and operational managers of Acute Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Acute Paediatrics, and Urgent Treatment Centres to ensure patients are seen by the most appropriate service first time, improving access to timely emergency and urgent care and effective utilization of resources.
It is expected that the postholder will provide clinical sessions within the Urgent & Emergency Care system in keeping with their experience and skillset at a minimum of 2 sessions per week. The preference is for these to be delivered within the Urgent Treatment Centres.
