About this client/child:

Meet Sophie, a vibrant 19-year-old with a cheeky sense of humour. She loves buses, street musicians, swimming, funfairs, meal deal picnics, and chilling with her iPad. Sophie has severe learning difficulties, autism, and epilepsy. She may be non-verbal, but she communicates in her own way through expressions, signs, and leading you to what she wants. If you're patient, playful, and energetic, Sophie will brighten your day! Sophie’s epilepsy is mostly nocturnal, but she may have occasional seizures during the day. She’s physically able, but needs help with personal care, like dressing, showering, and using the toilet. Overall, she’s full of energy and ready to explore the world with you!

Overview of role:

Sophie is in her first of three years at college and within the next 6 months the plan will be for her to move into supported living locally. This will be a very exciting, albeit daunting step for her. As Sophie’s Support Worker/Buddy, you’ll help her with this transition and be her sidekick on adventures around town. Whether it’s discovering new activities for you to enjoy or exploring outdoor spaces together, you’ll play a key role in helping Sophie build her independence and social skills. There will also be the option of additional hours travelling with the family to Sophie’s grandparents for two nights occasionally.

Who this job would suit:

Someone who is energetic, creative, and ready to make a positive impact on Sophie’s life. Previous experience working with a young adult with additional needs is a must, but if you don’t have experience with epilepsy, no worries—the family will provide training. What matters most is your enthusiasm, understanding, and willingness to stick around for the long haul and build a strong bond with Sophie. It is a genuine occupational requirement that the Support Worker/Buddy fits in with the client’s peer group.

What’s great about this job:

This is a lovely family who have a great history for forming lasting relationships with previous Support Workers. Sophie is lots of fun to be around and will certainly make it a very rewarding role.

Who is recruiting for this role?

Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews.

Please note:

Where a specific gender is stated as essential, gender is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance to paragraph 1, of schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for female or male worker to work with our client.
